A Little Bio

Playing the acoustic guitar

I started studying music theory and playing classical piano in 1993. In the beginning of my studies, I was heavily influenced by J.S. Bach and W.A. Mozart music. Lately, in 1996, as I was progressing on piano technique by taking seriously on Hanon and Czerny exercises, I started listening to L.V. Beethoven symphonies and sonatas for piano. Beethoven influence changed a lot my playing, but only in the next year, when I started studying some Chopin and Liszt pieces, my playing style really took shape. From that time, I began to enjoy the virtuosism in music. Chopin and Liszt showed me that you can be a virtuoso and still make beautiful and cool music, although some people still think that virtuosism means tedious and methodic music, which is obiviously a false statement. Just listen to Chopin’s Fantasie Impromptu in C#, Op. 66 and Liszt’s Liebesträume in E, S.541, No. 3 and you’ll get my point

In late 1997 I became a classical guitar student, but that didn’t last long: in 1998 I switched my focus to electric guitar. In the beginning, I used to play some grunge from Seattle which I enjoyed by that time (bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam). It was cool, but shortly that kind of music wasn’t much of a challenge anymore and I started studying some ‘serious’ stuff like Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimmy Page. Their great pentatonic work helped me a lot in composition and improvising. In the year 2000, I started playing in a band and got into some metal stuff, mainly Metallica, which helped me develop some technique and speed. By the end of that year, I went to a Steve Vai concert and that totally changed the way I study and play the guitar. Vai’s versatility and (sometimes) experimental music still influences me a lot. His influence made me study not only his music, but Joe Satriani’s as well, making me a much better player. They played the same role Chopin and Liszt did when I was studying the piano back in 1997. My interests in instrumental music took me into an instrumental rock band and I finally could play some Vai and Satriani songs along with some great musicians.

Although I still play classical guitar and the piano, my study now concentrates on the technique and composition on the electric guitar, heavily influenced by Steve Vai and Steve Morse.

Some influences: W.A. Mozart, L.V. Beethoven, F. Chopin, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, Steve Morse, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, John Petrucci and Eric Johnson.
