Times Square
New York, NY – USA
I’m not happy about using the least amusing place in New York to illustrate this, but since most tourists like it, here it goes. I usually don’t fiddle with distortion correction while using an ultra-wide-angle lens because it’s part of its character and when properly explored, it can really pump up an image.
However, sometimes I want just to create a simple snapshot of reality, like in the photo above, so I’ll go for full distortion correction. I shoot at 11mm to get a bit of room around (because cropping will be necessary later) and during the post-process I’ll deal with vertical/horizontal perspective correction and also geometric distortion.
