I am very excited to be supporting this very cool project by Canonical called “Ubuntu Edge”. It is a technology testbed for the mobile-desktop convergence.
At first, it looks like an ordinary smartphone. But when you plug it to a monitor, it becomes a full-blown Ubuntu desktop PC.
Convergence is a topic I often talk about here in this blog: the iOS-fication of OS X, Windows 8, etc. So, it’s quite obvious I am excited about this initiative. And I also think there is a bit of hope here: since Microsoft is too incompetent to be the third big player in the mobile arena, why not take a closer look at Canonical? They fixed the Linux desktop mess, so I guess there is a good chance they might do well on mobile too.
