Paper published at I2TS 2005: Capacity and QoS of Wireless Mesh Networks

A paper written by me, David Gallego, Michel Yacoub, Alvaro Medeiros, Paulo Cardieri and Elvio Leonardo about capacity and QoS of wireless mesh networks was accepted and published at the 4th International Information and Telecommunication Technologies Symposium (I2TS 2005).

Abstract

The Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) are particular types of ad hoc networks where the data traffic is forwarded to or from a gateway connected to other networks. As ad hoc networks, the WMNs provide good reliability, scalability and low infrastructure investments, which grants a market appeal to this technology. But there always is a tradeoff between the number of hops the packets have to travel to reach their final destination in a WMN network and the interference the node experience. The frequency band and the network topology have direct influence on quality of service parameters, like delay and lost packets ratio, and regulate the capacity of the network. This paper investigates how some properties of the physical channel affect the quality of service and the capacity of a WMN.
