iLife ’11 Review – Part 2

Now, let’s talk about iMovie a bit. I don’t use this much, since I rarely shoot video, but when I need to, it does a decent job. The only complain I had about the past version was addressed in this one, which is better audio editing tools/interface.

Editing videos is pretty much the same. If you used iMovie before, there’s no learning curve at all. There are some new effects, like instant replays and flash-and-hold, but they aren’t really useful to me. One cool thing is the People Finder feature, which is like Faces, but for videos. There are also new templates for creating movie trailers, which look cool too.

Sharing was also improved in iMovie, like in iPhoto. Now it’s very easy to share videos in YouTube, Vimeo, CNN iReport, Facebook and MobileMe.

So, iMovie is a very decent app for casual video editing. If you need to put together your vacation of party videos, this will do just fine and it won’t take much of your time too. If you don’t use the new effects and templates, it’s just like the old one, but with better audio editing features. If you don’t edit your audio tracks separately, then you’ll benefit a lot from this upgrade.

Last is Garage Band.
