iTunes 9.1 Released

Yesterday I updated my iTunes to version 9.1. Apple announced that it is the first version which supports the new iPad. Well, it may be, but there more cool things about this one. Two features immediately caught my eye:

  1. Convert music to lower bit rates on sync

This was an option available only to iPod shuffle users, but now it’s open to everybody. This is useful for those who are concerned about memory space in their iPods/iPhones/iPads but want to keep high-quality versions of their songs in their computers. You can now do that by converting to 128 kbps AAC on sync, so that the lower quality version of each song appears only on your mobile device.

  1. New Genius playlists

I’ve always thought Genius playlists were great, but they offered little user control. Now you can rename, delete and re-arrange the mixes. Plus, there’s a new control for the mixes, which allows the user to go forward/back, making navigation through the mixes easier. There’s now way to actually see the songs on each mix, though, but I like it this way because the cool thing about Genius is the surprise factor. 🙂
