IBM unveils new POWER7 systems

IBM announced new systems based on the POWER7 processor.

The flagship system is the big, energy-efficient, Power 795 server. It may be equipped with up to 256 4.0 GHz POWER7 cores. The Power 795 is IBM’s biggest Unix server to date and it is able to consolidate multiple AIX or Linux workloads under a single system using IBM’s PowerVM virtualization software.

IBM also announced several entry-level systems based on the same processor. Combined with the mid-range servers announced earlier this year, the current announcement completes the IBM Power 7xx lineup.

More information about the POWER7 line is available at IBM’s website.

I recommend Linux on Power users to download the Advance Toolchain for best performance.
