I spent the whole year looking for a study piano. After testing a bunch of them, I ended up with a Yamaha Clavinova CLP-340 digital piano.
I chose a digital over an acoustic one for several reasons:
-
It allows headphone practice at night – when I usually have time for this.
-
The sound of today’s digital pianos are very close to a grand piano. Uprights, on the other hand sound shallow and dull, with a few exceptions that cost more than a high-end digital.
-
Good digital pianos of today, like the Yamaha CLP-340/380 and Roland HP-307 feel a lot like a good grand piano: dynamics, string resonance, moisture-absorption keys (synthetic ivory) and even wooden keys. Pedals are a bit wobbly, though.
-
You get a lot for your money.
-
You save a lot of money with maintenance.
-
I don’t have room (neither resources) to buy a grand piano.
I ended up with the Yamaha over the Roland because the price was better and I liked a lot of the tones of it. Reminds me a lot of a Yamaha CFIIIS Concert Grand, which I played occasionally in the past.
I’ll post some recordings later in this website, when I have some time to do that. But believe me, the sound out of this thing is really good!
