IBM researchers managed to store a bit using 12 atoms

A team of researchers from the Almaden lab managed to reliably store one bit of magnetic information using only 12 atoms at low temperature. As a comparison, a modern hard drive uses ~1 million atoms to do the same. This is a major breakthrough for the future of magnetic storage.
